Reflections 2010

Reflections is an annual Art show for disabled artists put on by Cal-Diego PVA were the winning piece from the previous year is used as the influence for next years show and promotional material.

The 2009 winner of the art show was a very nice painting that I’m sorry to say I can’t remember the artist. I really didn’t do much to decorate the promotional material for the 2010 show mostly letting just using a little blend to help the horizontal painting fill the vertical space of the brochure.

The piece of art that won the 2008 contest was a somewhat abstract piece of art. I liked this because I was able to use a little bit of my own creativity to incorporate it into the promotional material. I also had to use my creativity a bit because there was only one photo of the winning piece that I had as a source to work with and it was at a little bit of an angle.

This was the first Reflection Art Show I worked on and I was a bit more conservative with the implementation of the previous years winning piece (a beautiful painting.) For this years promotional material I mainly used colors from the art as a pallet but did not edit the photograph of the art itself. For the later shows I experimented a little more but always tried to keep the focus on the art.

Freedom Festival Flyer 2012

As a veterans nonprofit organization Cal-Diego PVA always takes part in the veterans day parade, but the organization wanted a bigger presence on the day. That’s when the Freedom Festival came about. A celebration at the end of the parade route with a car show on the pier in front of the USS Midway.

For 2012 the theme was not specific to any theme so I took the opportunity to use a photo from a previous event. The photograph just worked so well in my opinion that it needed was the only choice.

Probably the most important part of the 2011 celebration was the theme of hot rods. This allowed me to experiment with some color that was a little different than the usual Red White and Blue. When working for so long with a veterans and american theme Red White and Blue can become a little overwhelming. It was nice ti mix it up a little.

for the 2010 Freedom Festival we actually had it sponsored by Ford through a local ford dealership. The people at for actually provided us with some art to make the flyers and brochures from. This made it somewhat easier to focus on the design not having to worry about art.

The 2009 Freedom Festival/Veterans Day celebration was also a corvette show “Vettes for Vets” thanks to the local corvette owners club. As much as I enjoyed making the promotional material for this even it seemed a little flat afterwards and I really tried to make the following years designs have a little more pop.
